The Destructive Trifecta: Social Media, Stress, and Laziness.

We've covered mindset and introduced some basic habits to increase your productivity for the day, but what about free time? Are you someone who spends most of your "downtime" on TikTok, Instagram, or Facebook? Do you feel that this benefits your productivity? As a teenager and someone who has these apps, I know that I spend too much time going down rabbit holes on social media. Hours can go by in the blink of an eye with a screen up to your face; vacuuming your attention to video after video. On average, people spend  2 hours and 24 minutes  daily on social media platforms.  Let's consider economics: opportunity cost.  You may spend roughly 2.5 hours scrolling through social media per day, which is 2.5 hours that could be spent  on  reading a book, completing homework, meditation, or a wide variety  or  healthier activities.  A multitude of  ordinary people might  themselves struggling when trying  to divert their "down time" t...

The Burnt Toast Theory

Image
Have you ever burnt your toast in the morning, and you started to run behind schedule? Then you couldn't find your keys, your car wouldn't start, or your kids were playing outside and made the house all dirty? The ideology behind this theory is that yes; all of these minor inconveniences are frustrating and may make you think you're having a "bad day", but maybe it was to save you from a car accident. Yes, the kids came inside, tracking dirt through the house, but perhaps if they hadn't come in, they would have found a hornet's nest outside. The small things that aggravate you throughout the day might be troublesome, but maybe they happen for a reason. Try to apply this to your problematic week, and see how it goes :)

Boost Your Happiness! Use these 3 Steps Daily.

Your happiness and overall mental health and well-being can impact how productive your days are. Everyone has bad days, whether it's stressful deadlines at work, school, or conflict with someone close to you. They've happened to all of us and I promise they won't stop! It's out of our control, but our daily habits aren't. A habit is a practice that becomes a tendency, like brushing your teeth or making your bed in the morning. Healthy habits can make a positive impact on your productivity, so   why not try starting some to keep our mental health in check? Journaling is helpful, but it can be hard to keep up with. Luckily, there are easier ways! I find that a little spoon of gratitude can help your mindset.  1. Start the day with gratitude. I was raised with a parent who never stopped reminding my siblings and me how fortunate we are to have a home with electricity, fresh food, a car, clothes, etc. Remind yourself in the morning how lucky you are to have all  of  the...

You Don’t Have to Join the 5 AM Club to be More Productive

Let’s be real, it can be difficult for the majority of us to follow the tips of influencers who have time to join the 5 AM club. Believe it or not, there are other ways to begin your journey to building healthy habits that will make it easier to reach your goals! Keep in mind: a start doesn’t have to be a huge adjustment to your life. My favorite first three baby-steps are: 1. Charge your phone on the opposite side of your room.  Unless you’re a first responder, you likely don’t need  your smartphone right beside your bed. Turn up your alarm ringer, and charge your phone where you have to physically get out of bed to turn off your alarm.  2. Make your bed before you start scrolling through your phone.  The first thing you do in the morning can really impact how the rest of your day will go. I think we can all agree that scrolling through your emails or social media is not an ideal way to start a productive day. Make your bed and preface your morning with something ...

Lets Start Here: Why is it so Hard to Have Healthy Habits?

Do you notice how so many millennials are often on the hot topic of "simpler times"? Back when technology wasn't a distraction, kids were out and told to "be home by dark", and cars used CDs and cassette tapes for music. Everything changed, but why? Convenience. The modern market is intensely driven by how they can make anything more convenient for buyers. Smartphones and applications; you can have dinner delivered to your door at the quick click of a few buttons. You can purchase something from a different country and it will be at your doorstep by the weekend. Instead of maintaining a healthy lifestyle to lose weight, you can get surgery instead. What about fast food? Inflation has made it faster, cheaper, and lower in quality - it's more convenient. A multitude of people, especially those who never knew what simpler times were, don't recognize the detrimental effects of the broad spectrum of convenient changes and products that are spoon-fed to us eve...
