Binge Eating
Let's face it, most of us have turned to food for comfort at least once. Unfortunately stress catches up with a lot of people, and many can fall into a cycle of binge eating. Personally, I have gone through seasons like this- more than once. I want to share my experience of breaking these cycles, and pushing myself toward better eating habits. For me, it looked like replacing breakfast with coffee, having a big lunch if I could find the time, and skipping dinner because of work. I would return home, and eat everything in sight! Mostly the easier things to grab, like processed snacks and junk food. Then, I would wonder why I was so tired all of the time, and why my body felt cruddy. I began to recognize that my eating habits were not helping me achieve my other goals, and definitely were not helping my body. The start for me was a good breakfast. Once I started eating a breakfast with some kind of protein in it, I would wake up and be so hungry every day. Lunch was the same, but dinner had to be navigated somehow, so I would pack a dinner. Once I got home late for work, I was always still hungry. It's not a crime to have a late night snack, but I knew I had to break my pattern to see a change. This can be compared to baby feeding schedules, parents will form a schedule to feed the baby appropriate to its' age. Over time, the baby will get hungry during those times. It can be similar to adults, those who skip breakfast usually aren't hungry at breakfast. For myself, I would eat a lot at night, so I would get hungry at night. I decided to quit eating all of those snacks at night so I wouldn't be hungry and tempted. However, this doesn't have to be as hard as it sounds. I started to figure out that the action of eating is also satisfactory, so I would grab something more healthy. From carrots to grapes, or even plain popcorn, there are low-carb and healthier alternatives to binging junk food. Try this out and keep pushing if this relates to you! It takes motivation and perseverance to break bad habits :)
