The Elephant in the Room: Eating Habits

Do you know that sugar isn't bad for you? Well, in the sense that your body actually needs sugar to function properly. Yes, sugar is addicting and we can fall into unhealthy eating habits when we use sugar as comfort instead of fuel. However, in a balanced diet of protein, carbs, fats, and nutrients from fruits and vegetables, sugar isn't going to make you obese if you are fueling your body properly. Of course, don't take this as going to eat the rest of your kid's Halloween candy; but there is a reason why people say sugar isn't bad for you if you have it every once in a while. If you are someone who is trying to lose weight, did you know that cutting back carbs and increasing the amount of calories you burn is not exactly healthy? Is keto really going to help, or intermittent fasting? Well, let me break this down. The main macromolecules your body needs to function are proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. Your cells use fats for their membranes, carbohydrates are for fast energy, and proteins are for energy storage, and also allow your body to do things such as regulate hormones! Did you know that 50% of the dry mass of one body cell is made of protein? If you decide to start burning more calories than you intake, how will your cells properly function? Well, your body will start breaking down your muscles for energy- goodbye gains. Some research also indicates that the body's natural response to consuming less calories is to store more of these calories in fat, so you don't run out of- in this case- stored energy. Just some cool facts, stay tuned for my intel on binge eating!
